What is the brewery's name?
Smiðjan Brugghús

When was it started?
We have not opened yet but we have been working on this project since Christmas 2014. But hope that we can finally open the 1. March (the Icelandic Beer day) 2018.

Real brewery or "contract brewery"?
We are are a “real brewery”. At our location in Vík í Mýrdal, Iceland. We are going to have brewery/brewpub/restaurant, we have a 1200L system and 8 fermentation tanks. We are four that own the brewery, myself (Sveinn Sigurdsson), Vigfús Thor Hróbjartsson, Vigfús Auðbertsson and my girlfriend Thorey Richardt Ulfarsdottir. But me (Sveinn Sigurdsson) and Thorey are going to be running the place.

How did it come to this?
This all started when me and Thorey lived in Odense and Vigfús Thor sent me a message on Christmas day 2014 after reading a beer book he got for Christmas, asking if we should not start a brewery in the small town of Vík í Mýrdal. Me and Thorey had been planning on starting a brewery in the future and even at the moment he sent me the message, I was working on a business plan for a brewery on Fyn, as a project in my master program in brand management and marketing communication, so I just told him that when I would finish it I would just translate it to Icelandic and send it to him. Two days later he sent me the drawings of a brewery in a building in Vík and so that’s how it started.

What is the plan?
The plan is to make great beers and burgers, and listening to some great music while doing so.

What kind of beers should we expect?
We are going to start with some of the popular styles like, NEIPA, Porter´s, stout´s, IPA and pale ales. But also want to work more on the sour beer category,

What's the next move?
The next move is to open the place, but you can follow our next moves on snapchat, instagram and facebook: smidjanbrugghus But I hope that I can bring some beers to the Christian Firtal Pale Ale festival 2019.
